What we Believe @ St John's

Church logo

We aim to be a God centred, relationship driven and life transforming
church in Birkdale.

We strive to be a church where people feel at home, know they matter, grow in their faith and where they feel confident to invite others.

At St John's, we believe in…
  • The one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
  • The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
  • The dignity of all people, made in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
  • The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
  • The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
  • The bodily resurrection of Christ, his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
  • The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
  • The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
  • The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
  • The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Welcome to St John's

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. When you arrive you can be assured of a warm welcome.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits at the end of the service. It is a great way to meet people. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcomers know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a toilet accessible to wheelchair users in the hall.

Our Service

The service begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members along with anything we have to give thanks for. Following this we have a song.  During our services we try to have a balance of traditional, modern and new worship. One of our leaders will then give a bible based talk that we can apply to our everyday life.  After that, we sing again before a time of prayer which will be led by the leader. We then finish with a final worship song. The whole service lasts around 45 minutes.

What about my children?

Children stay with their parent or grown-up, we have an area at the back of church with toys. There are baby changing facilities in the hall  We love having children in our services, they are valued members of our church.
